From 1854 until 1859, old
Wasco County extended east-west from the crest of the Cascade Mountains to the crest of the Rocky Mountains, and north-south from the Columbia River to the 42nd Parallel ( the current northern boundary of California ). It comprised an area of 134,000 square miles ( 30% more than the present State of Oregon ) and included parts of four present States. Thousands of pioneers flocked to Wasco County via the Oregon Trail to garner their share of the region's rich natural resources and Federal land grants. The Wasco County Pioneer Association commemorates those exciting years in an annual meeting and in an extensive collection of memorabilia. We invite you to join us ! |
The Association is a non-profit Oregon corporation; membership is open to anyone with an interest in early-Oregon history. The annual meeting is held in The Dalles on the first Saturday in May.
For 2011, the date will be May 7th . Members will gather at 9:30 am at the Calvary Baptist Church, 3350 Columbia View Drive to enjoy a display of memorabilia, a luncheon served at 11:30 am, a business meeting and a program related to the interests of the Association.
